The saga seemed to have quietened down for a few months. But yesterday, the controversy surrounding Raheem Sterling sparked up once more, with reports suggesting the winger is expected to ask for a move away from Liverpool this summer.
His current contract runs until 2017, and last month the 20 year old rejected a new £100,000 a week deal. Sterling told Brendan Rodgers he wants to go before the Chelsea game on 10 May and will now meet the Reds manager and chief executive Ian Ayre on Friday.
The Anfield club have reacted by insisting he will stay on Merseyside, but how have Twitter users reacted? Beware, there’s some angry Liverpool fans in store…
I’ll start with former Reds player Didi Hamann, who thinks the loss of Sterling wouldn’t affect Liverpool too much.
If Sterling wants to go let him. We not won much with him so we will be ok without him. We need players who want to be here and commit.

Mirror journalist John Cross can understand Sterling’s side of the story.
Raheem Sterling wasn’t born and brought up in Liverpool and isn’t Steven Gerrard. He’s ambitious, wants to win things & do well for England.

Fellow journo Tony Barrett of The Times believes Sterling’s agent is just following orders from his client.
Easy to fall into the trap of believing Sterling’s being driven out of Anfield by his agent. The agent is doing what the player wants.

Paddy Power may be joking around with their clever play on words, but I think it could be valid advice.
John Barnes says Raheem Sterling should STAY at Liverpool, and also needs to hold and give, but do it at the right time.

Here come the Liverpool fans…
Hope to see you rot wherever you end up next, suarez made you look decent last year, Bang average footballer with a lot of pace @sterling31

Raheem Sterling is the biggest example about everything wrong in the game. Greedy and ungrateful.

QUOTE: Raheem Sterling: “I felt bullied into signing a new contract at Liverpool.” ….forced into a £100k a week deal at 20 must be tough!
— BBC Sporf (@BBCSporf) May 18, 2015
If Raheem Sterling thinks he’s been bullied he asked for it. Shankly would have torn him a new one. Whining little baby. Shift him ASAP.

I’ll finish with this guy, who is critical of Liverpool fans such as those above. Is he right?
Liverpool have one of the most promising young players in the world and fans have demonised him because he wants a pay rise.

What’s frustrating about the Sterling thing – fans arguing about his ‘attitude’. Maybe the constant abuse he gets has affected him somewhat?
